Students must be undertaking VETIS in Engineering

ATTENDANCE DETAILS:  One week block. Available anytime of the year.

TASK & DUTIES:  This placement will allow a student who is undertaking VETiS Engineering to build upon the skills they are learning in their program. Duties may include; fabrication, interpreting engineering drawings and plans, safely handling various materials and use of hand and power tools.

REQUIREMENTS:  Students must be interested in fabrication and willing to work in a team environment.

SKILLS ATTAINED:  Students will be building on their general engineering skills, plan interpretation, basic welding and fabrication skills, working within teams and general workplace communication skills.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS:  Personal protective clothing must be worn at all times. This includes steel capped boots, enclosed workwear, ear and eye protection.

FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS:  Student needs to arrive early, ask for the manager and be prepared to undertake safety induction.

WORK SAFETY NOTES:  Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.

The student would be introduced to all aspects of design, manufacture, installation, maintenance, recycling and research on energy innovation within the insulation industry.

SKILLS ATTAINED:  Students will be building on their general engineering skills and in particular with sheetmetal work, plan interpretation, sheetmetal work, working within teams and general workplace communication skills.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS:  Students must wear steel capped boots, overalls or long pants and long sleeve shirt. The employer will supply students with safety glasses & hearing protection.

REQUIREMENTS:  The student must be willing to learn and keen to work with small engines. The student needs to be well presented with the ability to work in a clean and orderly manner. The student is expected to be punctual, to be a good listener and be prepared to work well in a team and with customers.

SKILLS ATTAINED:  The student will gain an understanding of basic mechanical services and repair tasks for a variety of small engines (eg mowers, brushcutters, chainsaws and other outdoor mechanical equipment). The student will also have the opportunity to learn workplace communication, safe work practices and how to cooperative effectively in a workplace team.
