Three stories of young people getting a head start on their future careers

Three inspiraitional young Geelong students heading in three different directions, and gaining the advantage in their respectgive careers, all while they are completing their schooling!

Nathan Wood from Geelong Baptist College is employed as a SbAT by Victorian Group Training Company with placement at the Pulse Community Radio. Nathan’s family own a production company and his interest in the media field has grown since getting more hands on in the business. This has led to an opportunity to undertake a Certificate III in Media as an SBAT in 2016 through Diversitat Training.

School based Apprenticeships and Traineeships are one way to prepare for a full-time apprenticeship when you leave school. SbATs involve learning on the job one day a week and training half a day a week at TAFE as well as doing your senior certificate at school.

Matthew Jones from Oberon High School is employed as a SbAT by JPH Joinery in Belmont. He started by doing work experience in Year 9 and progressed to a SbAT in Year 10.

Anis Gul Mohammed Ali’s career goal is to ultimately become a surgeon. As part of her VCE program at Northern Bay College she elected to do a school based traineeship to ensure that this pathway is right for her and to get hands on experience. Anis and St John of God Geelong Hospital are delighted that she decided to do so.

Anis is currently undertaking a school based traineeship with Gforce Strategies 4 Excellence in Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.
