EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION: This employer works on a range of new home builds along with renovation work. He is offering a carpentry opportunity to an interested student within his team, this would a student undertaking VETiS Building as it will allow you to practice your skills and build your knowledge on a real work site.
Student must be undertaking a VETiS program in Building
ATTENDANCE DETAILS: One week blocks OR one day a week (any day). Available anytime of the year.
TASK & DUTIES: The student will be assisting the builder and his team with all aspects of the domestic building trade. This may include setting out, framing, scaffolding, use of hand and power tools (under supervision), site clean-ups, building calculations and assisting with deliveries. The student will be required to follow worksite procedures and assist with keeping a clean and tidy work area at all times.
REQUIREMENTS: Student must be keen to learn the building trade, punctual, willing to listen and learn, follow all worksite OHS and they must have a CI Card.
SKILLS ATTAINED: Students who undertake this opportunity will be enhancing the skills and knowledge that they are learning in their VETiS program. This may include; OH&S specific skills, hand and power tools, calculations for the building trade, how to read a plan, site preparation, communication skills, working within a team, setting out, framing, and scaffolding.
DRESS REQUIREMENTS: Students must wear protective clothing (hi-vis), safety footwear (steel cap boots), ear and eye protection, hat and sunscreen
FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS: Students need to arrive early and be prepared to undertake safety induction.
WORK SAFETY NOTES: Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.
TRANSPORT REQUIRED: Students must be able to get to various building sites where required
