EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION: This automotive business specialises in independent services and repairs for European branded cars such as Volvo, Peugeot, Renault and Citroen. They deliver dealership standard services, tyres and repairs and maintain new car warranties. They are happy to host a student who is keen to learn about the automotive trade and interested in working on European cars.
Students must be undertaking VETIS in Automotive
ATTENDANCE DETAILS: One day a week (any day except for Fridays) OR one week block anytime of the year.
TASK & DUTIES: The student will be assisting the trained mechanics in the servicing of European vehicles with hands on participation in mechanical repairs and services. The student will participate in various facets of a busy automotive workshop (including cleaning of the workshop, identifying automotive parts, performing simple automotive procedures) and be required to work in a team and potentially with customers.
REQUIREMENTS: The student must be willing to learn and keen to work in an automotive business that specialises in European cars. The student needs to be well presented with the ability to work in a clean and orderly manner. The student is expected to be punctual, to be a good listener and be prepared to work well in a team
SKILLS ATTAINED: The student will gain an understanding of basic mechanical services and repair tasks. The student will also have the opportunity to learn workplace communication, safe work practices and how to cooperative effectively in a workplace team.
DRESS REQUIREMENTS: Protective clothing, safety footwear, overalls, clean neat & tidy appearance
FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS: Student needs to arrive early, ask for the manager and be prepared to undertake safety induction
WORK SAFETY NOTES: Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VETiS course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate
