EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION: This business in one of Geelong's oldest and operates in four sites in and around Geelong. This large store combines hardware, timber and nursery sales. This particular position is within their Hardware area in the Geelong store.

Prefer a student to be undertaking a VETiS program in Construction (not mandatory).

ATTENDANCE DETAILS:  One day a week OR one week blocks.  Available anytime of the year

TASK & DUTIES: The student will be learning all aspects of the retail hardware industry. They will be working in teams and rotating within the various trade departments such as building, plumbing, electrical, paint, nursery etc. Duties may involve; identification of various products, packing/warehousing activity, cleaning of the site, customer service and general labouring duties.

REQUIREMENTS:  The student must have an interest in sales and in hardware and be willing to work in a retail environment with customers

SKILLS ATTAINED:  The student will gain an understanding of working within a retail timber environment. Students can expect to attain skills in workplace safety, recognition of various hardware products, dealing with customers and working in a small team.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS: Work pants, hi vis top, steel capped boots and ear plugs must be worn.

FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS:  Students need to arrive early and be prepared to undertake safety induction.

WORK SAFETY NOTES:  Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.
