EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION:  This large national IT retail store specialises in selling a large range of ICT equipment and accessories. They are keen to host students who are interested in IT support / technician work along with being able to assist in the store front on occasion. The store sells a variety of ICT equipment and computer accessories, along with suppling customers with general IT support with software installations and diagnostic testing for problems.

Students must be undertaking a VETIS program in an ICT area

ATTENDANCE DETAILS:  One day a week or one week block. Any time of year

TASK & DUTIES:  Students would be assisting in software installation, diagnostic testing, basic ICT repair and maintenance, customer service, receiving of goods and general cleaning of the business. Duties will be mainly be within the back of house IT repairs and general maintenance area with some shop front duties assisting customers at times.

REQUIREMENTS:  Students must have a keen interest in ICT (software and support based mainly) and be able to clearly communicate to customers and other team members. Students must be willing and able to do some customer service at times.

SKILLS ATTAINED:  Students would be putting in to action the skills that they are learning within their ICT VETiS program. This may include; running diagnostic tests, maintaining equipment and software, installing and optimising software and providing advice to customers.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS:  Students must wear closed shoes, business trousers and a collared shirt.

FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS:  Student needs to arrive early, ask for the manager, and be prepared to undertake safety induction.

WORK SAFETY NOTES:  Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.
