EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION: This employer's work is mostly in the domestic plumbing area. He is offering a plumbing opportunity to an interested student within his team. This would suit a student undertaking VETiS Plumbing and someone who is keen to do an apprenticeship, as it will allow you to put into practice your course work and build your site skills.
Student would preferably be undertaking a VETiS program in Plumbing
ATTENDANCE DETAILS: One week blocks OR one day a week (any day). Available to host anytime
TASK & DUTIES: The student will be assisting the plumber with all aspects of the domestic plumbing trade. This may include setting out, laying of plumbing pipes and systems, manual labouring, use of hand and power tools (under supervision), site clean-ups and plumbing calculations. The student will be required to follow worksite procedures and assist with keeping a clean and tidy work area at all times.
REQUIREMENTS: Students must be keen to learn the plumbing trade, be punctual, willing to listen and learn, able to do physical labouring, follow all worksite OHS and must have a CI Card. Prefer a Torquay based student as most of this employer's work is in that area.
SKILLS ATTAINED: Students who undertake this opportunity will be enhancing the skills and knowledge that they are learning in their VETiS program. This may include; working with plumbing pipes, fittings & fixtures for installations, plumbing pipe systems, OH&S specific skills, hand and power tools, calculations for the plumbing trade, site preparation, communication skill and working within a team,
DRESS REQUIREMENTS: Students must wear protective clothing (hi-vis), safety footwear (steel cap boots), ear and eye protection, hat and sunscreen and other PPE as required.
FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS: Students need to arrive early and be prepared to undertake safety induction.
WORK SAFETY NOTES: Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.
TRANSPORT REQUIRED: Students must be able to get to various building sites where required
