EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION:  This young builder predominately works on new homes. He is keen to assist a young person to further their skills in the building trade and gain some experience on a worksite. This would suit someone keen to find an apprenticeship in the future.

Student would preferably be undertaking a VETiS program in Building

ATTENDANCE DETAILS:  Available one day a week (Thursdays and Fridays), anytime.

TASK & DUTIES:  The student will be assisting the builder with all aspects of the building trade. This may include setting out, framing, scaffolding, use of hand and power tools (under supervision), site clean-ups and building calculations. The student will be required to follow worksite procedures and assist with keeping a clean and tidy work area at all times.

REQUIREMENTS:  Students must be keen to learn the building trade, be punctual, willing to listen and learn, follow all worksite OHS and must have a CI Card.

SKILLS ATTAINED:  Students who undertake this opportunity will be enhancing the skills and knowledge that they are learning in their VETiS program. This may include; OH&S specific skills, hand and power tools, calculations for the building trade, how to read a plan, site preparation, communication skills, working within a team, setting out, framing, and scaffolding.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS:  Students must wear protective clothing (hi-vis), safety footwear (steel cap boots), ear and eye protection, hat and sunscreen and toolbelt.

FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS:  Students need to arrive early and be prepared to undertake safety induction.

WORK SAFETY NOTES:  Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.

TRANSPORT REQUIRED:  Students must be able to get to various building sites where required
