EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION:  The employer is a painter with a small crew. The work is mostly domestic painting and includes interior and exterior work, wall paper installation and colour design. This position would suit a student who is keen to pursue a painting apprenticeship.

Student would preferably be undertaking a VETiS program in Construction (Painting)

ATTENDANCE DETAILS:  One week blocks (any time of year). 

TASK & DUTIES:  The student will be assisting the painter with all aspects of the trade. This may include surface preparation (sanding, putty, gapping), paint application, timber staining, site clean-ups and painting calculations. The student will be required to follow worksite procedures and assist with keeping a clean and tidy work area at all times.

REQUIREMENTS:  Students must be keen to learn the painting and decorating trade, be punctual, willing to listen and learn, follow all worksite OHS and must have a CI Card.

SKILLS ATTAINED:  Students who undertake this opportunity will be enhancing the skills and knowledge that they are learning in their VETiS program. This may include; OH&S specific skills, painting principles, use of painting and decorating hand tools, preparation and application, calculations for the trade, communication skills and working within a team.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS: Students must wear protective clothing, safety footwear, hat and sunscreen

FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS:  Students need to arrive early and be prepared to undertake safety induction.

WORK SAFETY NOTES:  Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.

TRANSPORT REQUIRED:  Students must be able to get to various building sites where required
