EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION: This bricklaying employer is keen to meet students who want to learn all aspects of the Bricklaying Industry. You will be working in a team environment and building on your bricklaying and general construction skills. The employer is keen to show students the various aspects of bricklaying which will allow them to increase their chances of gaining an apprenticeship.
Student would preferably be doing a VETiS program in Construction (Building OR Bricklaying)
ATTENDANCE DETAILS: One week blocks (any time of the year) OR one day a week. Available anytime of the year.
TASK & DUTIES: Students will be involved in all aspects of bricklaying work including; mixing mortar, laying of bricks, heavy lifting (stacking of bricks), site preparation, setting out work sites, scaffolding, worksite calculations, block and brick work, contributing to a team environment and keeping a safe and tidy work site.
REQUIREMENTS: Students must have safety boots, their own PPE (including hat, wet weather gear, sun screen, ear and eye protection). A CI card must be carried at all times while on site.
SKILLS ATTAINED: Skills to be learned will be based on those required to gain work in the bricklaying industry. Including; site setup, calculating bricks, brick and block work, safe handling of various tools and working safely in the construction industry.
DRESS REQUIREMENTS: Students must wear steel cap boots and building work wear.
FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS: Students need to arrive early and be prepared to undertake safety induction.
WORK SAFETY NOTES: Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.
TRANSPORT REQUIRED: Students must be able to get to various building sites where required
