EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION:  This business produces high quality finished products using only the best materials available and utilising 3D drawings of floor plans and products. They produce many products for the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, study and wardrobe. The business is offering a cabinet making / joinery SWL opportunity to a student who is keen to pick up a full time apprenticeship in the near future. This would suit a student undertaking VETiS Furnishing or Building as it will allow you to showcase your skills to a potential employer and build your knowledge of the trade.

Student must be undertaking a VETiS program in Construction (Furnishing OR Building)

ATTENDANCE DETAILS:  One day a week OR one week blocks.  Available anytime of the year.

TASK & DUTIES:  The student will be assisting the tradesmen with all aspects of the cabinet making trade. This may include prepping material/wood, sanding, edging, filing, use of hand and power tools (under supervision), assembling components, joinery work, construction of basic products, on-site installations, unloading deliveries and the use of building calculations. The student will be required to follow worksite procedures and assist with keeping a clean and tidy work area at all times.

REQUIREMENTS:  Student's must be keen to learn the cabinetry/joinery trade and be working towards obtaining an apprenticeship. They must be punctual, willing to listen and learn from the tradesmen and follow all worksite OHS procedures. MUST have CI Card (White Card).

SKILLS ATTAINED:  Students who undertake this opportunity will be enhancing the skills and knowledge that they are learning in their VETiS program. This may include; OH&S specific skills, hand and power tools, calculations for the construction trade, communication skills, working within a team, assembly and construction of products and prepping of various materials.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS:  Students must wear protective clothing, safety footwear (steel cap boots) and have their own ear and eye protection and use other PPE whenever asked.

FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS:  Students need to arrive early and be prepared to undertake safety induction.

WORK SAFETY NOTES:  Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.

TRANSPORT REQUIRED:  Students must be able to get to various building sites where required
