EMPLOYER DESCRIPTION: This employer's core business is working in Manufacturing Plants to carry out plant machinery maintenance. They are supportive and encouraging to both male and female students. This can include working on site for scheduled plant shutdown maintenance. They also work on mechanical projects and installations, industrial project management, hydraulic and pneumatic repair and maintenance services. They are keen to offer an experience for a student who is interested in general engineering/fitting duties and would like a hands-on experience.
Students must be undertaking VETIS in Engineering
ATTENDANCE DETAILS: One day a week (Monday and Wednesday preferably). Available anytime of the year.
TASK & DUTIES: This placement will allow a student who is undertaking VETiS Engineering to build upon the skills they are learning. Duties may include; general engineering, basic fabrication, basic fitting, interpreting engineering drawings and plans, safely handling various materials, use of hand and power tools and housekeeping.
REQUIREMENTS: Students must be keen to learn about engineering and in particular fitting duties. This employer is particularly keen to host girls who are interested in the trade area.
SKILLS ATTAINED: Students will be building on their general engineering skills, plan interpretation, basic fabrication and fitting skills, working within teams and general workplace communication skills.
DRESS REQUIREMENTS: Steel cap boots and long heavy duty trousers.
FIRST DAY INSTRUCTIONS: Student needs to arrive early, ask for the manager and be prepared to undertake safety induction.
WORK SAFETY NOTES: Students need to have started the OHS (WHS) unit from their VET in Schools course of study at a minimum. Students must follow all worksite OHS instructions and wear correct PPE as appropriate.
